SHE was mesmerized by the magnificent Zimbabwe sunsets, enchanted by the majestic Victoria Falls, the largest curtain of falling water in the world, which is also one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
More importantly, she was also overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality of the locals.
That sums up the feeling of Kenyan travel adventurer and online content creator Ms. Mercyline Masanya as her vacation trip to the country draws to a close.
Ms Masanya, known as the African Tigress on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, has literally become Zimbabwe’s digital tourism ambassador since arriving in the country earlier this month.
Out of more than 20 African countries she has visited in the past two years, African Tigress has fallen in love with Zimbabwe, describing it as “the most beautiful country with warm people”.
Being his first time in Zimbabwe, African Tigress has so far visited Harare and Victoria Falls, with Bulawayo likely being his next destination.
African Tigress explores the mighty Victoria Falls. She hopes to visit Bulawayo and attend the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) as well as have the opportunity to savor her moment of adventure by exploring the tourist attractions of the city.
“For me, traveling is a passion and it’s also a way for me to meet new friends, learn new cultures and explore business opportunities. Travel exposes me to new horizons and I think it is important to normalize visiting other African countries, not only to explore the beauty of our continent, but also to understand our various cultures and food, among others. She said.
“This is my first time visiting Zimbabwe and it is such an amazing and beautiful country. So far I have been to Victoria Falls and Harare where I have visited several suburbs such as Borrowdale, Avondale, Mbare and Mt Pleasant. The city gives a relaxed Nairobi feel and the streets are so wide and less crowded unlike where we are in Nairobi.
African Tigress said the highlight of his visit was the warmth and friendliness of the Zimbabweans, learning about the local culture and marveling at the awe-inspiring beauty of Victoria Falls.
“Zimbabweans are so friendly, loving and warm. I have been in the country for over two weeks now and I really enjoy adventure, cultural dances and also have the opportunity to see Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World ”, a- she declared.
“I have always dreamed of visiting Zimbabwe. Initially, I wanted to visit the country at the beginning of the year, but unfortunately there was a lockdown. “
Zimbabwe is its second country to visit in southern Africa after South Africa. Some of the countries she has visited in Africa include Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Egypt, South Sudan, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
“So far I have visited over 20 countries in Africa and a few outside the continent and Zimbabwe is the best destination. The more I know Zimbabwe, the more I fall in love with this country, ”she said.
As his vacation trip draws to a close, African Tigress has vowed to come back and explore other places such as Matopos, Great Zimbabwe, the Eastern Highlands and Binga Beaches, among others.
“Zimbabwe has so much to offer that you just can’t use it all in one trip. If I don’t make it to Great Zimbabwe and the Eastern Highlands this time around, I will definitely include these places in my next itinerary when I visit. I would also like to visit the Doma people in Kanyemba, ”she said.
African Tigress said all of his trips are self-funded. It generates revenue from its content through Google and sponsored ads.
After each visit, she creates digital content, which she then publishes on YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
She has over 120,000 subscribers on YouTube.
“For example, in case you have a certain product or service and you want people to know about it, you pay and I advertise it for you because I have a very large following and every day I get new subscribers, ”said African Tigress.
“I also inspire people who watch my videos to travel to countries I have visited. A lot of people I interact with on my digital platforms end up visiting these countries after watching my videos. “
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Business Director Mr. Godfrey Koti said there was a need to use digital platforms to present the country as an ideal destination choice.
“This is a testament to our digital drive that we have always talked about when it comes to marketing Zimbabwe as a tourist destination. So it is important for us to strengthen and collaborate more with people like Africa Tigress who have a larger audience, ”he said.
“We are very happy that African Tigress has promoted our country to a multitude of its subscribers on its YouTube channel. This is what we should be pushing by any means possible. We would like to engage more with bloggers and social influencers as this is where most people consume content. – @mashnets
